Memphis Offense vs. South Florida Defense
Memphis' multiple-receiver sets stretch defenses horizontally, forcing defenders to cover more ground and make more plays in space when the Tigers run. RB Curtis Steele, who is this year's Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, is a perfect fit for the scheme. He is a north-south runner who reads his blocks well, makes crisp cuts into the hole and reaches his top-end speed quickly, making it harder for pursuing defenders to close in on him. He's also elusive enough to make a defender miss in the open field. However, South Florida is capable of limiting his production. Bulls DT Terrell McClain anchors well in the middle, while the quickness of DEs George Selvie and Jarriett Buie will make it difficult to seal the edge. In addition, SLB Tyrone McKenzie is a sideline-to-sideline run defender who has above-average closing speed.
