Boston College offense vs. Virginia Tech defense Boston College redshirt freshman quarterback Dominique Davis has replaced Chris Crane, who broke his collarbone in the game against Wake Forest two weeks ago and will miss the remainder of the season. Davis is a better open-field runner than Crane, so his presence in the lineup adds another wrinkle to the ground game. BC true freshman running backs Montel Harris and Josh Haden fit well in the Eagles' zone-blocking scheme, but Haden sustained a shoulder injury last week and is questionable for this game. Both make up for their lack of prototypical size with vision, quickness and lateral mobility. Even with Davis in the lineup, the Eagles will have difficulty running the ball with any consistency. The Hokies have held the Eagles to less than 100 yards rushing in three straight contests dating back to October 2007, and they surrendered just 82 yards on 37 carries when the teams met earlier this season. |
