Moss, Leak and Crosby shine in Week 9
Although Tyrone Moss and Chris Leak are on the rise this week, the Missouri coaching staff has taken a hit.
- The opportunity is there every Saturday. Some players seize it. Others let it slide away. Here's a look at the players who shined or slipped in Week 9:
Tyrone Moss, RB, MiamiTyrone Moss ran for 195 yards against the Tar Heels.
Moss has been the Hurricanes' MVP since their opening-game loss at Florida State, but the junior took his game to the next level this past weekend. QB Kyle Wright's three interceptions led to a nine-point halftime deficit to North Carolina at the Orange Bowl on Saturday. At that point, coach Larry Coker and his staff elected to put their fate in Moss' hands. With the help of his mauling offensive line, which had a massive size advantage up front, Moss wore down the Tar Heel defense. He finished with 24 carries for 195 yards and four touchdowns, three of which came in the second half. Miami's 34-16 victory sets up an ACC Coastal showdown in Blacksburg next Saturday night.
Rufus Alexander, LB, Oklahoma
Alexander was all over the field in the Sooners' much-needed win over Nebraska on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder is instinctive, athletic and a tough defender with great range and playmaking ability. Alexander finished with 13 total tackles (11 solo), including three sacks with one forced fumble in the Sooners 31-24 victory in Lincoln. It should also be noted that the junior weakside linebacker was aided by an impressive performance from the defensive line in front of him, particularly from senior DT Dusty Dvoracek.
