National title implications hover over South Bend
Saturday's USC-Notre Dame game is just the latest in what has been a great rivalry since the 1920s.
When Knute Rockne died in March of 1931, the series lost a little of its luster, although the game that fall -- in which USC trailed 14-0 but came back to win 16-14 -- remains one of the greatest victories in the history of Trojan football.
Lore says the victory parade after the game drew more than 100,000 people to downtown Los Angeles.
