Solid defenses highlight first half of bowl games

It's been a crazy regular season, loaded with shocking upsets. Usually the bowl season is the most unpredictable part of the year. In keeping with the curveball nature of the season, I'm expecting it to go chalk this time around. Here are the guesses for games through Dec. 31:

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
Utah 38, Navy 20: Quietly the Utes' D played very well, holding four of their final six opponents to 10 points or less. They're very good against the pass, although that doesn't mean very much since they're facing Navy, but they are very good up front and that will count for something. More importantly, Navy's defense has been horrible, aside from the Army game. I like the Utes to extend their bowl winning streak to seven games.
