A couple years ago, Gerren Ballard (Whitewright, Texas/Whitewright) wasn't expecting to be a college football recruit. His first love is -- and still is -- basketball. As the years have past, he's found a genuine passion for the gridiron. In many ways, through hard work, the game has returned the favor. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end has emerged into a high-major recruit on a team that already includes one of the most recognized juniors in the country, quarterback Tyrone Swoopes. "I've noticed a lot of letters have been coming for me, and a lot of coaches have been calling," Ballard said. "It feels good, because I didn't think I'd ever be this good at football. I thought I'd be a basketball player. Everyone in my family likes basketball."
