Jack Allen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) became the third center from Illinois to give an FBS school a verbal commitment. Last spring, Brian Bobek (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) committed to Ohio State, Tony Durkin (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) committed to Illinois in July and now Allen has decided to cast his lot with Michigan State. "I went on a gut feeling," said the 6-foot-2, 265-pounder. "I have a very good relationship with coach [Dan] Roushar and coach [Mark] Dantonio. I had a chance to meet a lot of the guys currently on the team at Michigan State in the summer and they were all great guys. I knew Michigan State was the place for me."
