For several months it appeared that three-star linebacker Nick Menocal (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) was as solid a commitment as the Hurricanes could have had in their 2011 class.
So there was a surprise when the 6-foot-2, 235-pounder switched his commitment to Georgia Tech over the weekend after taking an official there.
Menocal, who remained solid after Randy Shannon's firing, felt like he wasn't a good fit with the current Hurricanes' regime.
