Defensive back Dondi Kirby (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), who tore the ACL in his left knee in mid-June, had surgery on July 26. Kirby has begun his rehabilitation and feels he is already ahead of schedule. "It's going good," Kirby said. "I can bend my knee and put pressure on it. It's doing better than I thought it would. In about five weeks I'll be able to walk without crutches." The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder started at both cornerback and wide receiver during his junior season. He made 45 tackles, intercepted four passes, forced three fumbles, and caught seven passes for 115 yards and scored once.
