Picks: Oregon, Bama should get it done
I had a strong week, going 12-5 against the line, putting me three over .500 for the season. The good: predicting Bama to squeak by Arkansas. The bad: picking Texas to dominate UCLA. The ugly: picking Notre Dame to upset Stanford.
A couple of housekeeping notes here: First, all game times listed below are ET. Second, in this blog every Thursday I only pick Thursday and Friday night televised games, then Saturday games involving teams ranked in the Top 25. Usually, I will jump in the comments on the blog and pick other games of interest to different fans who ask. If I had to pick every FBS game, this entry could get a bit long.
The 3:30 p.m. slot games that are listed as 'ABC Regional' can usually be found on ESPN2 in other areas. Check your local listings. If there's no TV network listed for a game below, also check local listings.
Here we go:
Thursday and Friday night games
Texas A&M Aggies at Oklahoma State Cowboys
7:30 p.m. Thursday (ESPN)
Lots of similarities here: both teams have talented WRs, terrific backs, big QBs -- but also shaky O-lines and unproven defenses. I have a little more faith in Aggies defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter, though, and will stick with the experience of QB Jerrod Johnson in a shootout that should be very entertaining. Texas A&M 35-34.
Brigham Young Cougars at Utah State Aggies
8 p.m. Thursday (ESPN)
USU has lost 26 of the past 29 and 10 in a row in this series, but the Cougars have lost three in a row and are really, really banged up. USU's D has been blown apart the past two games, allowing 41 each time. My hunch is the home team pulls the upset. The Cougars (102nd in total D) have had all sorts of problems with dual-threat QBs, and as Oklahoma can attest, USU QB Diondre Borel is pretty dangerous. Utah State 28-27.
