Since it's Independents Day on ESPN.com's college football page, I'm leading the blog with a Q&A with Notre Dame QB Dayne Crist, who I suspect is headed for a breakout season in South Bend. A few weeks ago, we spoke about the Irish's new system, how tough it is to see coaches you are close to dealing with the hot seat, and the misconceptions about life at Notre Dame.

Q: How is your knee feeling? [Crist tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Washington State on Oct. 31.]

To read the rest of Bruce Feldman's interview with Dayne Crist, plus notes on a USC defector and the SEC coach with the hottest seat this fall, you must be an ESPN Insider.
