I bounced this subject around in my mind for the past few days and consulted some coaches as I tried to put together this week's list on top specialists. I must admit I was partial to the return guys initially, but then when you consider that you can kick away from them, you start to really come around on the kickers and the guys who can literally give you a leg up in the field-position battle, which is vital in close games.
1. Daniel Sepulveda, Baylor, P: Mr. Field Position. He's averaging 48 yards per punt and of his 12 kicks, three have gone inside the 20 and three have been fair catches. The 2004 Ray Guy winner, Sepulveda owns the Baylor career mark for punts of 50 or more yards (54) and is tied for No. 2 in career 60-yard punts (11). In '04, he also placed 42 percent of his punts (26 of 62) inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
2. Mason Crosby, Colorado, K: He's been the best thing going about CU football for the past few years. Has everything you're looking for in a kicker: accuracy, leg strength and cool.
