UCLA picked up its first commitment of the year from one of the top athletes in Hawaii, Steven Lakalaka (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou), who picked up an offer from the Bruins and wasted no time in jumping on it. We first saw Lakalaka at the Nike SPARQ Combine in Salt Lake City and the Nike Camp at BYU the following day last June. He impressed with a 103.35 SPARQ rating highlighted by a 42-foot throw in the power ball and a 4.22 time in the shuttle. The following day, Lakalaka was rated among the top backs in the camp showing a nice combination of size and speed. He measured in at 5-foot-10, 211 pounds and could fill a few different roles for the Bruins.
