Cal quietly picked up a commitment from one of the top defensive backs in the West last weekend when Joel Willis (Pacifica, Calif./Pacifica) announced for the Bears. Willis was an early commitment to Washington before the two parties decided to go in a different direction. Willis gave the Huskies a commitment last summer, but always said he wanted to take a few other official visits. That's where things fell apart for the athlete and the Huskies. "They didn't want me to take any other visits," Willis said. "I committed so early, I felt like I wanted to see what else was out there. They said if I took any visits, my scholarship might not be honored. I visited Utah and I guess they didn't like that because I never heard back from them.
