There are several talented hybrid defensive end/linebacker prospects in the Golden State this year with Jason Gibson (Gardena, Calif./Serra) and Corey Waller (Long Beach, Calif./Poly) nabbing most of the headlines. Another talented player in that same mold is Charles Burks (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison). Burks was one of the premier pass-rushers in the state last season and a big reason the Chargers were ranked among the top five teams in the state most of the season before losing in the CIF Championship game. Despite missing four games, Burks finished the year with 14 sacks and his recruitment has picked up in recent weeks with a conditional offer from his childhood favorite, USC. "I talked to Coach [Ed] Orgeron two weeks ago and he said if I can graduate a semester early, so that my spot would count as part of the class of 2010, I have an offer," said Burks. "That was actually something I was already considering doing and with a potential USC offer at stake, I'm definitely interested in doing that. I still need to talk to our principal and make sure I'm able to do it. I have some classes that I need to figure out when I'll be able to take them but hopefully it works out and I can do it, USC would be a great option to have.
