CBB Summer Buzz: UCLA
The Bruins are looking to reestablish themselves among a power programs
Insider knows you're hot for hoops during the summer, so we're bringing you a closer look at a few of the big-profile schools before most freshmen have even moved into their dorms.
We continue with UCLA.
UCLA Bruins
2010-11: 23-11 (NCAA tournament -- round of 32)
There was a time, not too long ago, when the wages of success for top college basketball programs were simply more success.
From 2005-08, UCLA, under Ben Howland, appeared to be an unstoppable juggernaut. The Bruins lost to Florida in the 2006 championship game and met the Gators again in the Final Four the year Billy Donovan's team repeated.
The 2008 season netted yet another Final Four appearance, with Memphis keeping UCLA from going back to the final game. Conventional wisdom said that Ben Howland was knocking on the door and would add yet another championship banner to the rafters of Pauley Pavilion sooner rather than later.
Then came a second-round exit in 2009 and a complete tourney whiff in 2010. How did the mighty fall so far, so fast?
Become an ESPN Insider and read the complete UCLA summer preview, including comments from coach Ben Howland.
