Bill Self heads north to see Tokoto

ESPNU Terrific 25 small forward is quickly gaining high-major suitors as Kansas head coach Bill Self was the latest coach to check out the rising sophomore on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com's Kansas affiliate www.TheShiver.com.

Self was in Menomonee, Wis. on Tuesday (Jan. 25) for Tokoto's game. He wasn't the only big name watching the 6-foot-5 wing.

"Last Friday night, J.P. played in front of (head coach) Bo Ryan and (assistant) Greg Gard from the University of Wisconsin; Roy Williams (head coach) and C.B. McGrath (assistant coach) from the University of North Carolina and Orlando Antigua (assistant coach) from the University of Kentucky," Tokoto's AAU coach Ritchie Davis said.

One of those staff's was impressed enough to offer a scholarship.

"Coach Cal (John Calipari) called that evening as well to extend a scholarship offer to J.P. from the University of Kentucky," added Davis.

The Wildcats join an impressive list of offers for J.P.

"J.P. currently has scholarship offers from Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin," said Davis. "He is receiving very, very strong interest from North Carolina. He is also being actively recruited by Arizona, Boston College, Florida, Michigan State and UCLA."

ESPNU Super 60 shooting guard Damien Leonard nailed five 3-pointers on his way to 30 points in J.L. Mann's blowout win over Greenville on Thursday.

After the game, Leonard spoke with ESPN's Gamecock affiliate www.TheBigSpur.com and listed his top five schools.

Kentucky, Kansas, Texas, Clemson and Oklahoma State were the schools he mentioned.

Super 60 guard has 'great experience' at KU Late Night

ESPNU Super 60 point guard Josiah Turner spoke with ESPN.com's Kansas affiliate www.TheShiver.com about his weekend visit to KU's "Late Night in the Phog".

"It was good. I mean, it was great," said the point guard from Sacramento, Calif. "It was good, and it was a great experience. It was wild and I liked the crowd. I was kind of scared, I didn't know it was going to get that loud."

Turner and his parents also spent time touring the campus and the academic side of the school.

He is expected to make unofficial trips to USC and UCLA this weekend (Oct. 23-25).

Jayhawks offer Terrific 25 forward

ESPNU Terrific 25 small forward Ricardo Ledo nabbed his fifth offer last week when the Kansas Jayhawks staff extended a scholarship, according to ESPN.com's Kansas site www.theshiver.com.

Ledo, a Providence, R.I., native also holds offers from Boston College, Massachusetts, Providence, Syracuse and Kansas.

Of the five, Ledo has particular interest in three.

"KU, Syracuse and Boston College," he told the site.

Speaking of the Jayhawks, Ledo addded, "I am going to try to get there for a game this season. I like it. Good tradition there, and they win a lot."

Ledo is currently ranked No. 13 nationally among incoming sophomores.

Quintrell Thomas will transfer to UNLV

Kansas power forward Quintrell Thomas has decided to transfer to UNLV for the 2009-10 season. Thomas, ranked No. 56 in the Class of 2008 ESPNU 100, orginally signed with Kansas over the Rebels which played a role in his decision to leave for Sin City.

"My mother loves the situation," Thomas told the Las Vegas Sun. "I liked the coaching staff before I made my decision to go to Kansas. It was between them and Kansas at first. Plus (I like) my role once I get there and the opportunity to make it deep in the (NCAA) tournament with the players we have."

Thomas will sit out the 2009-10 season per NCAA transfer rules.

C.J. Henry to suit up for Jayhawks next season

Point guard C.J. Henry, the older brother of ESPNU 100 guard Xavier Henry, was admitted to the University of Kansas on Tuesday and will play for the Jayhawks next season, head coach Bill Self announced.

"We've been waiting to announce C.J. and are proud to formally do it today," Self said. "We've known C.J. and his family for years and although it took a while, we are glad to have him here."

The elder Henry originally committed to Kansas in 2005 but was drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees. He played professionally for three season before enrolling at Memphis last season. An injury prevented him from seeing any action for the Tigers.

Henry, whose tuition is being paid by the Yankees and therefore does not take up a scholarship, joins his younger brother along with Elijah Johnson, Thomas Robinson and Arizona transfer Jeff Withey on the Jayhawks 2009-10 roster.

Xavier makes it official: Kansas

ESPNU 100 prospect Xavier Henry signed with Kansas at a press conference on Thursday, choosing the Jayhawks over Memphis and Kentucky. He will be joined by his brother C.J. in Lawrence.

"I'm just excited about being able to take my game to the next level," Henry said. "(Kansas) Coach (Bill) Self is really excited, especially now that he has both of us. He asked me, are you sure? I wanted to play for a really good team."

Jeff Withey headed to Kansas

Former Arizona freshman center Jeff Withey will transfer to Kansas, according to the Arizona Daily Star. Withey was recently granted a release from the Wildcats following Lute Olson's retirement in October.

Withey is expected to enroll at Kansas in time for the spring 2009 semester and be eligible to compete for the Jayhawks by the end of the fall 2009 semester.
