Terps offer under-the-radar forward
According to ESPN.com's Maryland affiliate www.InsideMDSports.com, the Terps have offered a scholarship to 6-foot-9 power forward Eric McKnight of Princeton Day Academy.
McKnight burst on the scene after a terrific showing at the Impact Basketball event in Las Vegas in November.
"McKnight was outstanding throughout the three-day event," wrote ESPN's Scouts Inc. "The 6-foot-9 post player is a long, athletic jumping jack with great mobility and agility that allows him to beat his man up and down the floor."
His coach at Princeton, Van Whitfield, said McKnight is also being pursued by Wake Forest, Georgetown, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Virginia Commonwealth and Wyoming.

Terps eye 2011 guard Sterling Gibbs
Seton Hall Prep point guard Sterling Gibbs spoke with ESPN's Maryland affiliate www.InsideMDSports.com on Tuesday and it appears he is ready to narrow his list.
"I'm going to cut down my list soon and probably make a decision at the end of my season," he told the site.
Gibbs has offers from Maryland, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Indiana and DePaul and interest from Georgetown, Villanova and Virginia.
As for the Terps, the interest is high.
"I'm very interested in Maryland. They've been recruiting me since last year. I was able to take an unofficial visit to Maryland and talk to coach Gary Williams. He was very down to earth, along with the whole coaching staff."
Gibbs is the younger brother of current Pitt point guard Ashton Gibbs.

Super 60 Hunter Mickelson a top Terp priority
The father of Class of 2011 power forward Hunter Mickelson spoke with ESPN.com's Maryland affiliate about recruiting and where the Terps stand with the 6-foo-11 post.
Darin Mickelson claims around 25 schools are in touch with his son and he currently holds nine offers.
Maryland, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Kentucky, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, Minnesota and Baylor have extended scholarships.
Speaking of the Terps, the elder Mickelson told www.InsideMDSports.com, "They're definitely in his top five or six with schools like Kentucky, Kansas, Minnesota, Florida and Arkansas. He doesn't have any favorite and that's a good thing because he wants to visit all of these schools.
"We're basketball fans in general so the ACC we know," Mickelson added. "Coach (Gary) Williams, I know all about him. I was watching Maryland when they had (D.J.) Stawberry and before that with (Juan Dixon). I even followed them back when they had Len Bias and all of the other guys."
Hunter is ranked as the No. 13 power forward and No. 48 overall in the 2011 class.

Terps land St. Anthony forward Ashton Pankey
ESPN's Maryland affiliate www.InsideMDSports.com is reporting that power forward Ashton Pankey committed to the Terps on Monday.
Pankey, ranked as the No. 40 power forward in his class, chose Maryland over Houston. He is expected to sign his letter of intent on Tuesday.
"Ashton has traditionally been a player who impacted the game by rebounding, defending, and being active around the basket," writes ESPN's Scouts Inc. "He's an impressive athlete with long arms, good hands, and a strong frame who finishes very well around the basket, runs the court, defends multiple positions, blocks shots, and is especially effective on the offensive glass.
"While his offensive skill set hasn't shown any notable progression, his biggest development is playing with a much more consistent motor, which is crucial given his type of game. While he would need to develop an offensive weapon to take his game to the next level, there is plenty of value in a big man who doesn't need to have plays called for him to impact the game and does all of the 'little things' inside the paint."
Pankey joins and excellent 2010 Class for head coach Gary Williams, which includes ESPNU 100 prospects Terrence Ross (Portland, Ore./Montrose Christian School), Mychal Parker (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) and Terrell Stoglin (Tucson, Ariz./Santa Rita H.S.).

The 6-foot-8 Cameroon native had narrowed his choices to the Tigers and Maryland.
"He obviously loved the visit," said his AAU coach Jim Hart. "He is one-hundred percent comfortable with everything there. He loved the coaching staff and the new freshman kid they have. He had a great time and was really impressed with how practice was run. He thought the city was beautiful. The visit went fantastic."
Tsafack is expected to have his letter of intent in at some point during the early signing period.

Super 60 C Desmond Hubert snags Maryland offer
ESPNU Super 60 center Desmond Hubert met with the Maryland coaching staff on Saturday and walked out of Gary Williams' office with a scholarship offer, according to ESPN.com's Maryland affiliate www.InsideMDSports.com.
"It was real cool because like to me, coach Williams is up there with [North Carolina's] Roy Williams and [Duke's] Coach K in the ACC," Hubert said. "He's a really good coach, he's been there for a long time. He knows what he's doing."
Hubert has also unofficially visited Villanova and Penn State, both of whom have offered him. He's also being recruited by St. Joseph's, Rutgers, Virginia and Xavier, according to his AAU coach, Johnny Salmon.

Rising senior Justin Coleman talks with ESPN affiliate
Class of 2010 shooting guard Justin Coleman, who was recently named "Surprise Prospect" at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June, spoke with ESPN.com's Maryland affiliate site www.insidemdsports.com.
The 6-foot-4 talked about the Maryland offer and a possible visit.
"It was about two or three weeks ago. Coach Rob [Ehsan] called and said they were offering me," Coleman said. "He said I could get off of the phone that day with a full scholarship if I wanted.
"They're trying to get me there for a visit. I'm going to get there for one [sometime soon]. I haven't seen the facilities but I'm planning on going," he said. "They're one of my top schools."
Coleman also said he would like to take visits in August to Arkansas and Connecticut. The Razorbacks have offered him along with Marquette, Xavier and Indiana. The Huskies are showing interest as well as Florida, Memphis, Boston College, Oregon and Duke.
"I'm looking for a good academic situation and, of course, one of the biggest basketball programs," he said.
He indicated he would like to make a decision before the high school season starts.
