A tragedy has tested the resolve of a young coach and his players.
Last May, Western Kentucky's senior point guard Danny Rumph died after a pickup basketball game in his native Philadelphia because of the heart condition cardiomyopathy. Four months removed from Rumph's death, third-year Western Kentucky coach Darrin Horn still struggled to quantify the loss.
"What Danny brought to this program was so much more than anything that shows up in a box score," Horn said. "He played the game with a great deal of pride and passion. That was why he was such a fan favorite. We already miss that presence."
The path of Rumph's life might not have included many steps, but he left deep footprints.
