Team preview: The Citadel
Blue Ribbon Yearbook previews the 2005-06 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.

Basketball success at The Citadel, as with most military schools, seems to come in cycles. Coach Pat Dennis knows this as well as anyone. He has been there 13 seasons, and this year, he believes, could be one of those good ones.
"We made strides last year, hit a bump and couldn't recover," he said, "but I think we could be on the up cycle. We've got pretty much everybody back who played a key role."
The Bulldogs doubled their win total from the season before and at one point were 12-5, with wins over Army, Navy and Georgia Southern. Then the bottom fell out. Injuries stuck, followed by the flu, a tough thing to avoid at a close-knit academy like The Citadel, where everyone lives on campus and does everything together. The team wasn't able to get its flu shots because of the low supply.
