Team preview: Rhode Island
Blue Ribbon Yearbook previews the 2005-06 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
(Information in this team report is as of October 1.)
One suspects Rhode Island head coach Jim Baron will cross the street this winter rather than let a black cat cross his path. Or that he'll completely avoid walking under ladders.
The reason? Baron will do anything to ensure that the rotten luck that surrounded the program last winter is gone, so that he and the Rams' fans can enjoy the school's 100th year of men's basketball.
Last season, the injury bug didn't bite the Rams. It devoured them.
In all, Rhode Island players missed 93 games with an assortment of injuries. It began in the preseason when returning starters Dawan Robinson (stress fracture in his foot) and Jamaal Wise (stress fracture of the tibia in his left leg) got hurt. Those misfortunes proved to be a harbinger for the season.
