Jacksonville State started last season with only two players having played quality minutes at the Division I level.

Thus, it was a tough year for the Gamecocks, who played the last 10 games with a total of eight players -- six on scholarship and two walk-ons.

"We were ahead in some situations," Gamecocks coach Mike LaPlante said. "We just ran out of gas. This year we'll have enough bodies to have a good substitution pattern and it will be competitive for playing time."

Several of the Gamecocks from last year's team have departed. No big losses.
