Team preview: Georgia Southern
Blue Ribbon Yearbook previews the 2005-06 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
(Information in this team report is as of October 1.)
Georgia Southern may have the most explosive offensive player in the league, but the Eagles' are hoping for more of a defensive mindset this year.
One of the nation's highest-scoring teams at 80.8 points-per-game last season, Southern nevertheless dropped back by three or four games from the previous season's record.
"Two years ago, we really installed a defensive philosophy, and we won 21 games," coach Jeff Price said. "It was more of a mentality than anything, but I think I let us get away from that a little bit last year. We were scoring a lot of points, and sometimes it's easy to get comfortable in that rhythm. But when it gets down to it, we've got to get that defensive mindset back."
