Despite having to replace his top two scorers from each of the last two seasons, Dickey Nutt might be the happiest coach around.

With an expired contract looming, Nutt's Arkansas State team produced a late flurry last season that was crucial in him landing a new three-year contract. The Indians won their final two home games, including one against champion Louisiana-Lafayette, then beat host North Texas in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament to finish the season at .500 in the league and 16-13 overall.

Nutt is optimistic about carrying that momentum into 2005-06 despite losing J.J. Montgomery and Dewarick Spencer. Spencer exceeded 1,000 points in his two-year career while Montgomery tallied 947 during the same span.

Both were chosen to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 8 second team, the first time any ASU player had done so since Jeff Clifton was a second-team selection in 1994.
