Extreme take: Jayhawks defeat Longhorns for title

After three similar statistical models narrowed in on North Carolina and Florida as the prime favorites to cut down the nets, I decided to try one more approach -- and arrived at a combustible mix of upsets and an unlikely Final Four. If Wisconsin, Kansas, Texas and Ohio State sound reasonable to you, you're probably the kind that goes sky diving in your spare time -- or sympathizes with Christopher Walken's Russian roulette obsession in "The Deer Hunter."

Our methodology for this one was simple: After advancing the top two seeds to the Sweet 16 round and Nos. 3 and 4 to the second round, we determined every other game by strictly applying the upset and toss-up rules described in my "desperately seeking Cinderella" and "tips for making toss-up picks" columns.
