COACH AND PROGRAM

Most teams that lose the conference player of the year don't expect to improve, but the Santa Clara Broncos are looking to buck that trend. Despite the departure of center John Bryant -- who led the conference with 14.2 rebounds per game, 2.5 blocks per game and a .596 field-goal percentage, while adding 18.1 points per game and hitting 79 percent of his free throws -- the Broncos have begun to take shape under third-year coach Kerry Keating, who has molded the roster to suit the vision he brought to Santa Clara after a four-year assistant coaching stint under Ben Howland at UCLA.
