COACH AND PROGRAM

Almost everything that happened in Mike Davis' first two seasons at UAB built toward an expected breakthrough in 2008-09, but it didn't happen the way he envisioned it. Though the Blazers posted a solid third-place finish in C-USA and made a second straight NIT, Davis' third season was in many ways a disappointment -- not just because UAB missed some good chances to earn an NCAA Tournament bid but because a window of opportunity for the program closed shut.
