Bluejays' chances take hit with big loss
Thanks to Illinois State, the bubble picture just became a whole lot messier. In defeating Creighton 73-49 in the Missouri Valley Conference semifinals Saturday, the Redbirds put the Bluejays' tourney fate in the hands of the committee while possibly eliminating an at-large berth for everyone else.
Although Joe Lunardi included Creighton as a bubble team in Friday's edition of Bracketology (while assuming top-seeded Northern Iowa would win the conference tourney and earn the automatic bid), had the Bluejays managed to win their conference tourney, it would have gone a long way toward making the MVC a one-bid league. Northern Iowa, with an RPI of 67, would have had a hard time making a case for an at-large bid. Luckily, it won't have to worry about that, having downed Illinois State in the conference final.
