COACH AND PROGRAM

Unless there is a change of heart by athletic director Herman Frazier, this is the end of Riley Wallace's career at the University of Hawaii.

The famous redhead of Manoa, who has been known to throw a jacket or two into the crowd of the Stan Sheriff Center, enters his 20th season with the Rainbows as the winningest coach in UH history with 316 victories.

Wallace is in the final season of a five-year deal, one most Hawaii fans have known would be his last since the contract was struck. But somewhere along the way, Wallace changed his mind about retiring from college basketball. Frazier has held firm on the original decision -- so far.

It's hard to imagine life without Riley for many fans at the picturesque Manoa campus. He took a program mired in mediocrity and made it whole. Wallace has managed nine postseason trips to the NCAA Tournament and the NIT. He has 15 winning campaigns, including seven in a row dating back to 1999.

During his tenure, Wallace brought back three WAC championships to the island chain. He also has won an amazing seven of the 10 Rainbow Classic championships managed by the home team at the popular, long-running Christmas tournament.

He has left his mark at the school he loves and barring some unforeseen development, this is his farewell tour.
