Team preview: Army
Blue Ribbon Yearbook previews the 2006-07 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
(Information in this team report is as of October 1.)
If there is one thing most folks who follow Patriot League basketball can agree on, it is probably the notion that Army will be better this season.
A cynical view of that prognostication would be that after finishing above 300 in the RPI in each of coach Jim Crews first four seasons at West Point, there is nowhere to go but up.
That would be true, but it is also true that for the first time in Crews' tenure, Army has a core group of upperclassmen to provide stability and leadership to an experienced bunch of underclassmen and a promising, eight-player freshman class.
With four of the five who started the Black Knights' final game last season are back, along with five other guys with starting experience, there is little doubt Army will put a better team on the floor.
"We're excited," Crews said. "For the first time we have a combination of juniors and seniors. We have been low on seniors."
