The strength of the Big Ten freshman class is perimeter depth, and many freshmen are being counted on to produce right away.
• Chris Allen, Michigan State, 6-foot-3, 190 pounds
Averages: 8.8 points and 15.2 minutes in five games
Breakout game: 17 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes against Louisana-Monroe
Outlook: Allen is a long-range shooter that has struggled from 3-point range thus far, shooting only 26.1. percent. He has the ability to make five or six in a row from deep when he gets it going.
