On the list of intractable world problems -- topped, presumably, by things like famine, war and disease -- you'll not likely find "fix the NCAA men's basketball championship" anywhere near page one. And this seems to be the reaction of serious and casual fans alike: "If it ain't broke," they wonder, "why mess with it?"
