Why were we headed for Kelvin Sampson's new house?

Sure, Sampson knew me from my playing days at Oklahoma State and his wife Karen had left me a couple of phone messages back in my Oklahoma City radio days, but it was 12 hours before his first Midnight Madness as the head coach at Indiana. Instead of talking hoops, though, we were avoiding backhoes and pickup trucks that littered his yard, on his way in for a grand tour.

Repeatedly, Sampson spoke of how proud he was of the new place and Karen's vision of the finished product, and on the surface, I could see why. There is a new pool and adjacent pool house. Each room on the main levels shows impeccable taste with a more traditional look. The basement is killer, with three leather couches, a stereo system, a huge projection screen TV, an X Box 360, workout room, pool table and a sweet Indiana basketball-style hardwood floor.
