Around-the-world summer hoops highlights

• After winning the championship at Sonny Vaccaro's Reebok Big Time tournament, the Southern California All-Stars were being considered by some -- ridiculously -- the best summer team of all time. Led by Kevin Love and Taylor King, they took on all comers and beat Chicago Mean Streets Express and stars Eric Gordon and Derrick Rose, the best backcourt in the tournament.
Personally, when it comes to great summer teams, I am partial to the 1997 Riverside Church team from New York. It was led by two future NBA All-Stars in Duke's Elton Brand and St. John's Ron Artest and its point guard also was a future first-round NBA pick -- Erick Barkley of St. John's. The other two starters, Reggie Jessie and Anthony Glover, became St. John's starters, as well. I recruited all of these guys but let Brand get away!
