Another wacky Wednesday in college ball

What is it about Wednesday that so often makes it the wackiest night in college basketball? In no particular order: • Duke (10-2 ACC), peripherally in the hunt for a No. 1 seed, slept through its first half at Miami (3-9). Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith went 0-for-their-first-15, and evidently Mike Krzyzewski went off. The Blue Devils rebounded predictably in the second half and, thanks to a combination of InsideRPI (great) and conference competition (less than great), the Devils continue to show 40 percent odds to reach the top line. • Another team from Duke's state, Charlotte (8-3 A-10), dealt itself and the Atlantic 10 a serious blow by falling at home to Duquesne (5-7). The 49ers are going to be right on the bubble in three weeks and can ill afford to give the selection committee a reason to leave them out. Well, they just did.
