I just read an Associated Press article on ESPN.com about the NCAA mulling specifics for a 68-team tournament. To me, it crystallized the downside of expansion.
Forget for a second that the NCAA is mulling the specifics of a 68-team field after it formally decided to expand. In the article, the commissioner of the Northeast Conference said that playing in the opening-round games could "stigmatize" the conferences that may play in those games in successive years.
