Harvin and McDaniel commit to Florida
The Florida Gators scored a recruiting coup Monday by gaining verbal commitments from Percy Harvin and Damon McDaniel, ESPN's two top-rated wide receivers.
The commitments come on the heels of verbal commitments from ESPN's third-ranked quarterback, Tim Tebow, and ESPN's second-ranked defensive end, Jermaine Cunningham.
"Urban Meyer's offensive system is attractive to any wide receiver, and as most receivers go, they want to to see that ball in the air." said Tom Luginbill, Scouts Inc.'s national recruiting director.
"I believe both players have an opportunity to get on the field right away."
High school teammates at Landstown High in Virginia Beach, Va., Harvin and McDaniel long denied being a package deal.
When asked about it in an ESPN.com chat on July 28, Harvin said, "It's definitely a possibility [that we go to the same school], but we want to see if it's a fit for both us. That's the main thing."
Harvin, who is ESPN's 2nd-ranked Class of 2006 recruit overall, and McDaniel are the 11th and 12th ESPN 150 commitments for Florida.
