New York City is more known for being the playground basketball capital of the world. The list of basketball superstars who have come out the city's prep schools is numerous. But you also might be surprised to know that there have been some pretty good football players to come out of New York City and the entire state who have starred in the NFL.
Obviously, Vinny Testaverde (Floral Park) would be the most notable name. The former first round draft choice out of Miami is one of many players to play for the Hurricanes outside of the state of Florida. He has had an up and down NFL career, but considering how it started with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many folks including myself would call his lengthy career a success. Dartmouth grad and current New York Jet QB Jay Fiedler (Oceanside) returned to his roots after spending the last five seasons with the Dolphins.
