Gridiron stars abound in hardwood-heavy Hoosier State

If you ask most people what the first thing is that comes to mind when they think of Indiana, most will say basketball. It is hard to think about the Hoosier state and not have visions of Bobby Knight, or think of the sports movie classic "Hoosiers," or of Hall of Famer John Wooden, born in Martinsville.

Well, the fall is not just a period Hoosier state natives have to kill until basketball season kicks off. Indiana has a football tradition that the state can be proud of. It has produced several NFL stars, like Rod Woodson and Blaine Bishop. It has also fielded its fair share of quarterbacks including Rick Mirer, Rex Grossman and Jeff George, who attended national power Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.

The Hoosiers also support three major Division I football programs in Purdue University, Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame. It is hard to think of another college program that has a richer pigskin history then Notre Dame, and if you have trouble remembering, the residents of Indiana will be happy to remind you.
