What happened: After watching one day of the Mission Prep Christmas Classic, there was no doubt in our mind which team was going to take home the championship hardware. Although Dorsey (Los Angeles), J.W. North (Riverside, Calif.), Mission Prep (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Xaverian (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fielded talented squads, they were no match for Campbell Hall (North Hollywood, Calif.). Blessed with a plethora of skilled offensive prospects, Campbell Hall cruised past Dorsey 68-49 to capture the title in a game that was never close.
However, the matchup between these two talented squads sparked some intrigue even before the game, because of Dorsey's length and athleticism against Campbell Hall's skill and quickness. After a few minutes, though, Campbell Hall's suffocating defense, led by 6-3 junior Jrue Holiday and 6-6 senior Justin Holiday, and overall quickness set the tone. Dorsey's super sophomore, 6-6 Jordan Hamilton, struggled to get any aspect of his game going, as he and his teammates forced many ill-advised jumpers and turned the ball over numerous times. This led to many fast-break opportunities that either ended with a Keegan Hornbuckle (6-6 sophomore) jump shot or an athletic finish by the Holiday brothers. In the end, the only bright spot for Dorsey was the play of 6-8 senior Omari Johnson, who is bound for Oregon State.
