Taking into consideration depth, graduation and players who will leave early for the NFL, here are the recruiting needs of each team in the Big Ten:

Illinois:
Rashard Mendenhall had a strong spring game, and the sophomore should play a much bigger role this year, but both Pierre Thomas and E.B. Halsey are seniors, so depth at running back is an issue. Illinois uses a lot of three-receiver sets, so the emphasis will be on recruiting backs with the burst and vision to excel in a one-back spread set.
Steve Muench played four years of Division I-AA football before joining Scouts Inc. in 2002. He has evaluated both NFL and college players for Scouts Inc., but his current focus is on the NFL draft.
