It didn't take long for Gus Malzahn to prove the sway he had over his players at Springdale High School.

Shortly after he announced he was taking the job as the offensive coordinator at the University of Arkansas, QB Mitch Mustain reaffirmed his commitment and WR Damian Williams and TE Ben Cleveland switched their commitments to the Razorbacks. WR London Crawford, who is close with Williams, also switched his commitment to Arkansas, while WR Andrew Norman, another Springdale product, had already committed before Malzahn had arrived.

The true test of Malzahn's recruiting mettle will come during the 2007 recruiting year and beyond. The adjustments of being on the road, the phone calls, the e-mails, home visits and, most importantly, the evaluation of what it takes to win in the SEC will be a continual learning process. Recruiting his own players was the easy part; from now on, there will be no more direct ties.
