In this the silver anniversary of the NCAA men's basketball early signing period, 143 prospects from the ESPN 150 -- that's 95 percent -- signed a national letter of intent during the Nov. 8-15 fall signing period.

There were more unusual recruiting occurrences during this November period than in past years, and the teams rated at the top attained their lofty status by signing both top high school seniors and top postgraduate players.

Furthermore, there was no program that came away as the clear-cut winner at this stage. Actually, as many as nine colleges had fall recruiting classes worthy of consideration for the top spot.
