Kelly needs to focus on recruiting

It didn't take long for Notre Dame to decide on Brian Kelly as its new head coach, and Kelly will waste little time when it comes to recruiting. With the recruiting dead period looming, it also comes as no surprise that Kelly will not coach Cincinnati versus Florida in the Sugar Bowl because it would be impossible for him to prepare a winning game plan against the Gators and handle all of his recruiting duties for Notre Dame.

From now until Dec. 20 -- when the dead period starts -- Kelly must get in touch with all of the Fighting Irish commits and start evaluating all of them. He must decide which commits he wants to hang onto and which ones he wants to part ways with. He also needs to decide whether there are any Cincinnati commits he would like to try to bring with him to South Bend. On top of that, he has an opportunity to recruit much more high-profile players thanks to his coaching upgrade. The only problem with this is that he hasn't established any type of relationship with these high-caliber players this late in the recruiting process.
