ESPN College Football Recruiting

As hard as college coaches work at recruiting -- making numerous phone calls, sending out tons of letters, continually evaluating film and trying find out the secrets to landing the top recruits -- sometimes luck and timing play a huge role. Such was the case with the following two recruits.

It was the day after national signing day in February of 1996 that head coach John Cooper interrupted our defensive staff meeting to tell us he had received a telephone call from a lady named Roslyn regarding her brother who was a senior at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles. The player's name was Na'il Diggs, and she wanted to know if we were still interested in recruiting him.
