Standouts
Stargell Love (6-2, 180) PG2010, Winston Salem, N.C./Quality Education Academy
A physical and muscular PG who has size and quickness, Love is extremely explosive and can overpower most point guards. Love plays the game with great energy; he pushes the ball with speed in transition and aggressively attacks the basket. His primary strength in scoring comes from his strong penetration. He has a quick first step and the body to finish through contact at the rim. On his drives he is comfortable and productive going to his strong hand (right), but he needs to get just as comfortable going to his weak hand to be more of a threat. In the past, his jump shot was streaky, but you could see a marked improvement to that facet of his game this weekend. He consistently made shots from midrange all the way out to the arc. His elevation on his jumper is strong, and he released it with confidence. Defensively, he can make a difference, especially on the ball guarding penetration because of his strength and energy. What was even more impressive about Love is how important winning is to him whenever he competes. Even in a workout on a weekend in the gym in October, you could see his desire to improve and win.
