Lithonia, GA -- Justin Young's Georgia Hoops Fall Showcase was, as always, a highly organized and competitive event. The facilities at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church are excellent, the experienced and enthusiastic staff for skill development, led by former Georgia coach Pete Hermann, was worth the price of admission itself. Overall, it was a great day of basketball. The strength of the camp was in the number of young post players who came to learn and showcase their games.

Standout players

Kyle Meyer (6-9, 220, PF/C)
2012, Alpharetta, Ga./Northview

Meyer is a skilled young post who is starting to develop athletically with his running and jumping ability. He is effective playing face up; he can knock down a 15 17 jumper and he is improving with his back to the basket in the low post. He runs the floor consistently and does a nice job finding a seam rebounding the ball in transition. He plays good low-post position defense and challenges the shot by bodying up with his hands high. He also showed he is capable of blocking shots off the ball. He has a good work ethic and was impressive in the drill stations showing his skill set away from the basket. As he matures and develops more strength he will be a handful around the basket. He showed a good stroke from the free-throw line. This Class of 2012 post player is one to follow in the state of Georgia.

Henry Brooks (6-7, 185, PF)
2011, Lithonia, Ga./Miller Grove
Brooks, who plays for the very deep Miller Grove program, is a surprisingly skilled face-up 4-man. He can make plays at the rim in transition and also make jump shots from the perimeter. He has a very thin frame and needs to develop his strength, but he is not afraid of contact. Defensively, he can guard the wing or forward positions using his length to contest on the interior and his good foot quickness to contain on the perimeter. He is better suited for a 4-out-1-in type offense that will allow him to draw his man away from the basket.
