SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- St. Raymond's was the only school from the New York Catholic League to make the trip to N.J. to play in the Tip-Off Classic. Led by West Virginia signee Darryl "Truck" Bryant, St. Ray's played a road game at Seton Hall against Paterson Catholic and Seton Hall signee Jordan Theodore. The inter-state battle featuring at least seven future D-I players didn't disappoint and neither did the two stars.
St. Raymond's went into halftime with a double-figure lead, but Paterson Catholic came roaring back to make it a game early in the third quarter and actually cut the deficit to two points on multiple occasions. In the end, St. Raymond's had too much for its youthful opponents to contend with and pulled away for the victory.
2009 prospect Omari Lawrence (St. Raymond's) showed he will be a prime recruiting target for Big East programs and had 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Paterson Catholic has three 2010 prospects in Shaquilee Thomas, Jayon James and Fuquan Edwin with high-major potential.
