In terms of Final Four appearances, no basketball conference has been more successful than the Big Ten with a record number 39 trips. Also, Big Ten member schools have played in more NCAA basketball tournaments, 180, than any other conference. Since recruiting is the lifeblood for success in collegiate athletics, it is apparent that these programs have recruited well over the years.
In 2006, Ohio State had the nation's best class with Greg Oden, Mike Conley Jr., Daequan Cook and others, while Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin all had top 25 recruiting classes that year. In 2007, the conference had four schools ranked in the top 20: Indiana (4), Ohio State (9), Purdue (11) and Michigan State (15).
