Guard play heavily influences the amount of success college basketball programs enjoy, however quality big men in the pivot continue to place their imprint on the college basketball landscape.

Though North Carolina featured Raymond Felton and Rashad McCants in the backcourt, big man Sean May patrolled the middle for the Tar Heels during their run that culminated in the 2005 national championship.

May's performance earned him Most Outstanding Player honors as well as a lottery selection in the 2005 NBA Draft. The Florida Gators used their collection of frontline players that included 2007 NBA Lottery picks Al Horford and Joakim Noah, as well Chris Richards, to dominate the interior and win the last two national championships. All three of those players spent time in the pivot for the Gators at various points during the last two years.
